Animal Eye Specialists

Our Doctors

Providing top-notch specialized care isn't just what we do -- it's what we love!

Animal Eye Specialists, founded in 1994, is a full service veterinary ophthalmology specialty practice whose mission is to provide the highest quality, most compassionate care for our patients. In addition to our commitment to excellent patient care, we provide welcoming, informative and supportive service for our clients, and maintain a superior working environment for our employees. We offer consultations for pets with a variety of ophthalmic conditions on a referral basis. We work together with your pet’s veterinarian to provide specialist care for challenging or unusual eye conditions. This includes a variety of ophthalmic surgeries based on a patient’s needs including cataract surgery, entropion eyelid correction, surgical support of injured eyes, and glaucoma surgery. Ultimately we strive to facilitate both patient vision and comfort.

We have an in-house pharmacy, laboratory, and one of the most modern ophthalmic surgical suites in the Bay Area. We are available for emergency consultations from referring veterinarians, and make patients with acute or painful conditions our highest priority.

Our Practice

Dr. Kristina Burling is someone who always knew that the care of animals was her passion.  “I was fortunate to have amazing teachers in the sciences as a young adult and this blended with my love of animals pointed me in the only possible direction; to be a veterinarian!”

Dr. Burling went on to pursue her interest in veterinary ophthalmology by completing an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatchewan Canada in 1988, and an residency in  veterinary ophthalmology at UC Davis in 1991. Board certification in Ophthalmology was completed in 1992. Dr. Burling’s special interest areas within ophthalmology include medical ophthalmology, corneal, reconstructive, and intraocular surgery.  When not busy in the Ophthalmology clinic, you may find her in pursuit of her other hobbies – kayaking, gardening, and relaxing with her pets, friends, and family.
